The controversial oil-extraction technique called hydraulic fracturing, or fracking will be discussed by the Ventura County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, April 9 at 2 p.m. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend the meeting in the County Government Center, Administration Building at 800 S. Victoria Avenue.
Fracking involves blasting water, sand and chemicals into deep underground rock formations to crack it and allow oil and gas to flow out. Fracking is unregulated in California, unlike some other states that have rules or ban it entirely. Companies do not have to report what chemicals they use or where or when they frack. California is drafting regulations, but they won't be ready for at least a year and a half. To see the County staff report on fracking Click Here
