![]() In todays VC Star, reporter Mike Harris covers a story of residents smelling something - and they find it's linked to the crude oil stored nearby. This story appears the day after Ventura County Supervisors approved adding questions regarding fracking, acidization and other well stimulation techniques to the conditional use permit application for new drilling in the County. Also revealed was that there are potentially hundreds of old wells, drilled pre- 1948 - the years when the County started requiring zoning clearance and land use permits for oil and gas operations. Those old wells, while "legal nonconforming" according to County Counsel are not specifically covered under any conditional use permits, and were drilled without any environmental review of any kind.
